Ordinary polyesters are crystalline polymers, and special processing of ordinary PET films can only achieve a heat shrink rate of less than 30%. To obtain PET films with higher heat shrinkage rates, modification is also necessary. This means that to prepare high heat shrink PET films, copolymer modification of ordinary polyesters, i.e., polyethylene terephthalate, is required. The maximum heat shrinkage rate PET films after copolymer modification can be as high as over 70%. Characteristics of heat shrinkable polyester films: They are stable at room temperature shrink when heated (above the glass transition temperature), and exhibit more than 70% heat shrinkage in one direction. The advantages of heat shrinkable polyester packaging are: ① It is transparent and adheres closely to the product, showcasing the product's image. ② It tightly bundles the packaged items, providing good-scattering properties. ③ It is waterproof, moisture-proof, and mildew-resistant. ④ It has no restorative properties and offers some anti-counterfe functions. Heat shrinkable polyester films are commonly used in the packaging of convenience foods, beverage markets, electronics, and metal products, especially in shrink labels, which their primary application area. This is because with the rapid development of PET beverage bottles, such as cola, sprite, and various fruit juices, PET heat shrinkable are used as heat-sealed labels, which belong to the polyester class and are environmentally friendly materials that are easy to recycle and reuse. In addition to being as shrink labels, heat shrinkable polyester films are also beginning to be used as the outer packaging for daily products. This is because it can protect the packaged items impact, is waterproof, moisture-proof, and rust-proof, while also allowing products to gain user favor with its attractively printed outer packaging.
